Metallica gave the gift of music when they rocked out at United Supermarkets Arena on Saturday, but they also gave back to local organizations.

Through their non-profit, All Within My Hands Foundation, the band handed South Plains Food Bank a check for $10,000.

Meagan Bratton, director of development for SPFB, said this donation will fund about 150,000 more meals.

“It was very surprising, but also very welcomed and kind of cool,” Bratton said.

They also gave Catholic Charities of Lubbock all their leftover food.

“They decided to find a place to give it to everywhere they go so it doesn’t go to waste,” said David Briggs, with Catholic Charities of Lubbock. “It’s an awesome idea. It’s simple.”

Briggs said they were given enough leftovers to feed more than 100 families. This included items like salmon, chicken, beef, vegetables, salad, potatoes, and multiple breakfast items.

“It filled my 4 x 4 from the seats to the roof,” Briggs said.

Metallica even allowed Briggs and Bratton to bring their families to enjoy the concert.

“I didn’t know Metallica was this generous,” Briggs said. “I just thought they were a rock band.”
