While the existing foundation still stands, a million dollar project to rebuild the Legacy Play Village is underway.

“The existing playground needs to come down,” said Zoe Metcalf, chair of the steering committee.

She said they’re currently taking bids for a contractor to knock down the existing foundation and it should be down by June.

Metcalf said they are also re-branding the park with a new logo. She said the project will be completed in October of 2020.

“We’re meeting with community partners and investors, putting together our fundraising plan,” Metcalf said.

This is just the beginning of the fundraising process, she said.

“Our preliminary budget is $1.1 million dollars, that will change slightly on what happens with community design day,” Metcalf said.

Scheduled for June, Metcalf said community design day will provide community members an opportunity to come together with a designer to formulate a solid plan for the design.

One new thing they’re going to incorporate is an ADA  compliant design, providing all children with a sensory experience, she said.

“There will be lots of opportunities for children of all
ages and abilities to play so where there are special needs that need to be addressed,” Metcalf said. “There will be play features for all kids to play together as they should.”
