The City of Wolfforth gave residents a “heads-up” Wednesday about some new equipment they might see around town in the next few weeks.
Jason Stockstill with Dawson Geophysical in Midland said his company is hired privately to test for potential natural resources underground, and the process shouldn’t cause any trouble.
“When residents see those trucks moving through the area, they should see them with a police escort. They’re going to pull up to a spot, they’re going to lower what we call the ‘pad’ and that pad will shake the ground for just a few seconds,” Stockstill said, “They’ll pick that pad up, and then they’re going to drive to the next location, and they’ll continue to do this until the program is complete.”
City Manager Darrell Newsom said the trucks are just a smaller version of seismic trucks that have been used in the oil fields for years.
Stockstill told EverythingLubbock.com the trucks will simply map out natural resources that may be available to drillers underground.
“What our services provide is basically a map of what it looks like sub-surface, so what’s underneath our feet, what’s underneath our properties, in terms of rock formations and different salt mines.
Our clients will use that information to make the best drilling decisions possible; to be able to extract the hydrocarbons that they have mineral rights and access to.”
The testing won’t cost the city any money and should only last about 10-14 days.
“The sensors will be placed in the public right a-ways on the streets, and along the streets about every 200 feet,” Newsom said.
Stockstill wants residents to know that the equipment is perfectly safe.
“We appreciate the opportunity to be able to work in the area of Wolfforth, and we’re going to be a good neighbor. We ask if anyone has any questions, feel free to give Dawson Geophysical in Midland, Texas a call.”
