Homeowners in South Lubbock caught an attempted home invasion on camera.

“If something out of the ordinary, we’re going to look into it,” said Kalea Hernandez, a neighbor who has surveillance video.

After catching people in the act more than once, Kalea and Omar Hernandez keep an close eye at what goes on in their neighborhood.

“On Friday night around 10 o clock, I’m trying to adjust settings on my camera so I can pick up license plates. The vehicle kind of stops real quick, pulls into our cul-de-sac, and that’s what caught my eye,” Omar Hernandez said.

In the surveillance video, you can see four people walking along the sidewalk near 97th Street and Avenue V.

“She takes a peek down that alley, and that’s when she sees the four people that were dropped off, they were coming out of the backyard into the alley and she yells, ‘What are you doing?’ Then they book it, they take off,” Omar Hernandez said.

This isn’t the first time they have held suspects until police arrive. It all started when someone broke into their cars.

“This all started when they stole my military stuff out of my vehicle, about the same time last year,” Omar Hernandez said.

Then they started keeping surveillance on their home and front yard. They also keep a lookout for any suspicious activity in their neighborhood.

They also manage the page Operation Crime Watch Lubbock.

“We felt well maybe we should come up with a group page on Facebook because it’s so highly used, and that way we can reach the whole city,” Kalea Hernandez said.

Kalea and Omar Hernandez are both trained members of the military and don’t encourage others to chase after people attempting crimes. They suggest calling the police if you see anything suspicious going on in your neighborhood.
