One person is dead following a traffic accident with a vehicle and a train in southern Terry County Friday evening.
On Sunday, officials identified the driver of the vehicle who died as Margaret Redecop, 20. Her Chevy Cruz hit the train operated by Lubbock and Western Railway Company.
The accident occurred approximately 2 miles north of the Gaines County line near U.S. Highways 62/385 just before 10:30 p.m., according to the Terry County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities told EverythingLubbock.com the driver of the car crashed into the train, causing it to derail. TCSO said the driver died from her injuries.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident.
