The Lubbock Police Department and other emergency crews responded to a dog-related incident in the 7900 block of Oak Avenue on Friday afternoon around 5:30 p.m.
Police said two dogs were fighting and one person was injured trying to break up the fight. The injuries sustained from breaking up the dog fight were minor, police said.
However, police believe the person then suffered from a medical incident that led to him being in serious condition and then dying.
A photojournalist on the scene said Lubbock Animal Services arrived around 5:45 p.m.
Steven Greene with Lubbock Animal Services said there was a dog bite.
The following is a statement from the Lubbock Police Department:
Just before 5:30 p.m. LPD received a call related to a male having issues breathing after attempting to break up two dogs that were fighting at a residence.
The male had minor injuries to his hands while breaking up the dogs. Officers were advised that several minutes later, the male began feeling ill and had trouble breathing. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
At this time, the death appears to be medical in nature.
