Power outages across Southwest Lubbock left many homes and businesses in the dark Sunday afternoon.
Lubbock Power and Light’s outage map showed around 162 outages affecting over 1,500 customers near 82nd street near Frankford and Indiana. The outage lasted around an hour and a half.
The Food King on 82nd and Indiana said they had to ask customers to leave their carts and exit the building. Down the street, a Pizza Hut-Taco Bell had to turn customers away during the lunch rush.
“It just went ‘womp,’ and then it went silent. Which is really weird because, you hear all the sounds? There were no sounds. It was all echoey and weird, which I’ve closed and opened and it is never like that,” Employee Kadi Touchon said. “I put a little sign out there that said temporarily out of power, and people sat there for at least two or three minutes just looking at the sign.”
EverythingLubbock.com reached out to LP&L, but has no word on the cause of the outages at this time.
