Dozens of power outages were reported in south Lubbock after a car wreck Saturday evening.

Lubbock Police said the crash happened just after 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of 82nd Street & Chicago Avenue.

Police said only one vehicle was involved, but a power line was struck.

LPD said accident investigators were called to the scene.

According to Lubbock Power and Light’s outage map, 100 outages were listed as of 8:00 p.m. Saturday, confined to the area near the crash.

LP&L posted a statement to Facebook about the crash.

“A car struck an electrical pole at 82nd and Albany which has interrupted service to customers in southwest Lubbock,” the statement said. “Crews are on the scene and are working to repair damage in order to restore power to all customer affected. At the moment, approximately 1,500 customers are experiencing a loss of service. We will keep you updated on the status of repairs.”

“We appreciate customers’ patience as crews work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible,” LP&L said.

LP&L followed up about an hour later with another post, saying “all customers’ service should be restored.”

“Crews are wrapping up their work repairing damage caused by a car hitting an electrical pole earlier this evening. All customers’ service should be restored.
