In a tweet posted at 11:45 p.m. the night before a men’s basketball game, Texas Tech’s Saddle Tramps called on the student body to help honor Sarah Grace Dearmond.
Dearmond died after a car crash on Sunday. She was a Texas Tech student and an active member in her sorority.

At the men’s basketball game against OSU, The Saddle Tramps and Raider Riot organized a memorial for her. The Saddle Tramps reserved one of their designated seats in her honor, and covered it in a pink t-shirt. The organizations then invited fellow students to place flowers or notes on the chair to honor her memory.
“We’re very much one family, one town, one team, everybody just supporting one another,” said Saddle Tramps member, Jake Vanhorn.
To both organizations, it was obvious they would do something to help honor the fellow student. And in under 24 hours, they figured out the best way to involve the entire community.
“It’s really kind of touching to see a real response from people,” said Raider Riot member Wes Law. “It’s nice to show that people show love to stranger for the sake of other strangers.”
Even Raider Red joining in and placing a bouqet of flowers on the chair.
“That’s the real important thing about this campus,” said Law. “That’s what gives us the passion to do what we do. Not for the fame but for the students, but for Texas Tech and Lubbock. It means a lot.”
This tribute showing that the Red Raider spirit isn’t just on the court, but in the heart as well.
