After more than a year, a part of the lawsuit filed against the owners of Ruby Tequila’s has been settled between lawyers.

This is according to Jeff Blackburn, who is the lawyer representing employees affected after the restaurant unexpectedly closed during the summer of 2017.

The settled portion was against Chalak Group, which sold Ruby Tequila’s to a couple in Lubbock who are also named in the lawsuit. At the time the restaurant closed, the Chalak Group still had management responsibilities and held the liquor license for the restaurant, according to Blackburn.

Due to a confidentiality agreement between the plaintiffs and the defendants, the amount that was settled on cannot be public.

However, Blackburn said he is pleased with the results.

“We’re very happy with it, and we’re very happy to have gotten them out of the way. We’re just going to keep on going,” Blackburn said. “We’re full steam ahead with the other defendants.”

He said employees affected by the sudden closing should be contacted soon with the news. Blackburn also said the case against the other two defendants is ongoing.

“I think most lawyers tend to look at people as cases or files. I look at people as people. These are people who work really hard, who did work really hard, many of them for years at that restaurant, and they deserve better than this. They at least deserve honesty and fair treatment,” said Blackburn.
