LUBBOCK, Texas– It has been almost two years since Twisted Spiget and Ruby Tequila’s abruptly shut their doors without paying multiple entities, including employees and a business they contracted with.
Drexal’s Paint was hired to paint Twisted Spiget in 2016. They used thousands of dollars in materials and labor costs to complete the job. However, the company was never paid.
The owner, Drexal Robinson, took the company who owns the restaurants, Fired Up Holdings, to court. They won the judgement, forcing the company to pay, but Robinson said he has yet to see the money.
“It messes the finances up when you plan to have things in order and once things are out of order, it’s hard to get back into the flow of things,” said Robinson. “It’s been a rollercoaster ride. No money.”
Last week, a civil suit was settled with Fired Up Holdings for an undisclosed amount and employees were finally paid, according to Jeff Blackburn, an attorney representing the employees.
Robinson hopes this movement will help him get his money as well. That totals approxmiately $14,000.
“We have a judgement over here that’s acruing interest and it’s the same company that paid everyone else,” said Robinson.
However, he worried if he does not get his payment soon, legal fees will overwhelm what he is actually owed.
“Do we have to file another an attorney to go after this or will you go ahead and issue him what is due? Just the question,” he said.
