A Lubbock allergist provided ideas to ease the symptom of springtime allergies that so often come with the pollen from blooming trees.

“At times, I’m sneezing a lot and sniffing and I can’t breathe, but right now I have a bad headache and my throats all itchy,” said Kay Taylor of Lubbock.  She suffers from seasonal allergies, and she just wants to make it to her grandsons wedding this weekend. However, right now she’s just not feeling up for it.

Taylor said her allergies during the spring months leave her feeling tired and prevent her from doing lots of things.

“I’m wanting to get out there and plant flowers on a pretty day,” Taylor said.

Allergist Robert Mamlok recommends a few things to help ease the symptoms.

“Try to minimize the outdoor elective time, especially the morning hours,” Mamlok said. “Also try to wash clothing.”

He also recommends using saline solution for your nose and eyes.

“Nasal irrigation with salt water is a very effective way to reduce the relative risk and complications of both allergies and chronic sinusitis,” Mamlok said.

The reason Taylor ventured outside Thursday was just to see her allergist, in hopes that he’d be able to help.

“[I came to the doctor] so I can enjoy this wedding,” Taylor said. “We’re having family coming in at night and we’re having people at my house.”
