There is still no sign of 35-year-old Carla Valpeoz, as her family continues to desperately search for answers.

Carlos Valpeoz, Carla’s brother, said his family just wants answers about what happened to Carla.

“We’re at day 36 now since she disappeared and we have no idea what happened to her, absolutely no idea and it’s extremely frustrating, we believe that my family deserves answers,” Valpeoz said.

He said so far there’s been an extensive search of the Archeological park north of Pisac where Carla was believed to have entered on Dec. 12.

“We now have supporting evidence, witness statements that suggest she had never entered the park,” Valpeoz said.

He said she was there for a wedding and then continued traveling the country with a tour group who helped her hike up Machu Picchu. After that, he said she wanted to continue touring Peru and ventured off by herself. He confirmed the last time she was seen was on security footage in Pisac.

“Based on the extensive search of that region, we don’t believe that she got lost, my family believes she may have been a victim of a crime here,” Valpeoz said.

Her father is still in Cuzco searching for her, but Valpeoz said there haven’t been any leads in the case.

“They haven’t found anything not a shoelace, nothing and so at this point we have reason to believe this should be addressed as a criminal investigation and we are pursuing that possibility,” Valpeoz said.

Having studied Arabic at Texas Tech, he said his sister’s love for language led her to travel the world. He said she was on a mission to see the world because she’s losing her vision.

“I’ll say that Carla, she’s never hurt a person in her life, she’s the most honest, caring and giving,” Valpeoz said. “She devotes her life to giving to other people, the only reason she went to peru was to immerse herself in the culture and understand the people of Peru.”
