Lubbock Police visited ‘Club Snow’ in East Lubbock eight times in the last six months. After another incident early Sunday morning, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission opened an investigation into the club.

Major Mark Menn with TABC said these types of locations do crop up ocassionally, claiming to be ‘bring your own beer’ bars.

“You can bring your own alcohol to certain establishments,” Menn said, “Places like this that are not licensed that are suspected of actually selling without a permit are something that we will investigate.”

When officers arrived to ‘Club Snow’ early Sunday morning, records showed the manager was behind the bar, pouring a drink for a man with cash in his hand. According to the report, the manager later admitted the beverage was alcoholic.

Police also discovered a stolen handgun out of Brownfield.

“I work security here, so I’m an employee,” a man claiming to be the security guard said, “They found a weapon, but people try to sneak weapons into clubs all the time.”

The man said the weapon was taken from a club-goer. He didn’t believe the establishment was breaking any rules.

“The drinks that they do have behind the bar or whatever, I know they give them away before two o’clock. So if you come before two o’clock, you get free drinks pretty much, at the end of the day,” the man said, “I don’t know…I think they charge for them at the door, but they have to drink before two.”

It’s the cover charge that Major Menn said could get a bar without a liquor license into trouble.

“A lot of times, they run into charging a cover, or they’re doing something that gets into the area of selling without a permit,” Menn said.
