Texas Tech Athletics is garnering national attention after a historic 2018 year.
Texas Tech Athletic Director, Kirby Hocutt said a historic year like this one is good for the university because it helps recruit more athletes. He also said it brings in more students for the university as a whole.
“We embrace that opportunity to make a positive impression towards excellence in everything that we do in athletics to positively reflect Texas Tech University, the Lubbock community and the West Texas region,” Hocutt said. “We hope to bring pride and distinction to this region.”
Hocutt said none of this would be possible without the support of what he calls the most loyal fan base and it is all a part of an atmosphere you can only get with college athletics.
“It does not matter where we are playing or what sport it is the Red Raider Nation comes out, lifts us high and celebrates with us,” Hocutt said.
The accomplishments from Texas Tech teams are:
- Tech football first bowl appearance since 2015
- Men’s basketball made the Elite Eight
- Women’s tennis made the Elite Eight
- Big 12 Championship for men’s indoor and outdoor track
- Top five finish for men’s outdoor track
- Men’s golf made match play at NCAA National Championship
- Tech baseball punched their ticket to Omaha
