Texas Tech athletic events will begin serving alcohol and reduce prices of their concessions starting Saturday, for the men’s basketball game against Kansas State.
“We have six items now on our menu that are less than five dollars per item, so you can really feed a family of four pretty affordably,” said Robert Giovannetti, the senior associate athletic director for the university’s athletics department. “And of course, we are going to have concession areas where you can purchase beer and wine.”
He said nachos and hot dogs will both be priced at two dollars. In addition, Giovannetti said the prices of popcorn, water, and a variety of other concessions will also be reduced.
“The fans have come out and supported us, so I think we are trying to do something to reward the fans for their passion and for their loyalty,” said Giovannetti.
The Athletics Department got the proposal approved at a Board of Regents meeting in December. Since then, they have been planning to roll out these new features by the first home conference basketball game of the season.
“It made sense being the first game of the year and it begging the first back to back game this weekend with the lady raiders and the red raiders playing,” he said.
The men’s basketball team take the court against Kansas State at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the Lady Raiders’ game against Baylor on Sunday at noon.
