The 29th Annual National Cowboy Symposium and Celebration kicks off on Sept. 8 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. This event is an opportunity to maintain and pass along western heritage and cowboy culture.

The Symposium offers different events for the whole family. Activities include cowboy music, poetry, storytelling and the famous chuck wagon cook off.

Executive Director, Monica Hightower said this event is important because it helps preserve our western heritage.

“Ranching and the cowboy lifestyle is a part of our heritage in our area,” Hightower said. “We have large ranches around us here in Lubbock and it is such a great part of our history. I think people really admire the iconic image of the cowboy.”

The Symposium continues through the weekend. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
