“Jacob, he was my favorite Jacob in the whole wide world. I wouldn’t trade the 30 years I had with him for anything on this earth,” said Jacob Duffee’s mom, Jody.
Jacob Duffee was reported missing at the end of September. For the entire time he was missing, his family searched Levelland and Lubbock for him. They passed out hundreds of flyers and talked to people searching for information.
Duffee’s body was found on Tuesday night in a drainage system. Lubbock Police arrested Oscar Diaz Cerna for the murder.
Cerna worked with Duffee at this lawn care business based in Levelland. Levelland Police questioned Cerna in the beginning of the investigation. Jody Duffee recently spoke with him as well, begging for any information.
“He looked me straight in the eye and said he didn’t know anything about Jacob’s disappearance,” said Duffee. “My understanding was he was like Jacob’s best friend. They were together all the time, Jacob took him places and even bailed him out of jail last year.”
Lubbock Police have not announced a possible motive in the murder case yet.
Family are devastated with the news after holding out hope that Jacob would eventually be found alive.
“It’s just been unbelievably hard and intense. You never should have to bury your children,” Duffee said.
Now, the Duffee family just wants people to remember not how Jacob died but instead, how he lived his life.
“It would take hours to tell you about Jacob. He was the life of the party when we had things at home. He was the character who always entertained us,” said Jody Duffee. “Jacob was always so happy go lucky, always cheerful and caring and concerned. He was just one of a kind.”
Jacob Duffee will be cremated in Lubbock and a memorial service will be held in Dallas.
A GoFundMe was set up for the Duffee family to help with funeral costs.
