The Brown family was moving all the way from Utah to Louisiana over the weekend when they stopped in Lubbock. Overnight, their U-Haul that was attached to their car was stolen in a matter of seconds.
While there were some valuable items in the U-Haul, there were also sentimental ones that have even more value. That’s what they said they want back the most.
The Brown family arrived in Lubbock late Saturday night. They knew their U-Haul had precious memories and belongings inside, so they parked it tightly between two cars to make it harder to steal. But with no luck, two suspects stole their trailer in a matter of seconds, taking not only their belongings, but also their family’s memories with them.
“I feel like it’s something I never thought would happen to me,” said Kathryn Brown.
The trailer had high-end art and jewelry inside, but the family said there were also some things you cannot put a price on.
“The sentimental things are really what breaks my heart, more than anything. Not being able to see my brother’s things ever again, really breaks my heart,” Brown said.
Her brother died 18 years ago, and what was inside the trailer is all she had left of him.
“I had every single thing I had ever been given from him to me, including his backpack and wallet when he died, old paintings of us when we were little kids. All of my photos of him were in that trailer,” she said.
The family is now offering a $5,000 reward for any information on the stolen U-Haul.
Luckily, there was insurance on some of the more expensive items in the U-Haul, but there’s no insurance policy for memories.
“I have hope that there are good people in the world left. I really only care about the sentimental items, we just want those to come back to us safely,” she said.
The U-Haul has Oregon plates on it and says Providence, Rhode Island, on the side of the trailer. If you have any information, you’re encouraged to contact police.
