Police are taking a closer look at a crash that sent a man to the hospital that authorities said involved an underage drunk driver.
According to LPD, an SUV driven by 20-year-old Evan Simmons collided into the back of a Toyota Camry near Toledo Avenue and 4th Street. The driver of the Camry, a 66-year-old male, was transported to Covenant Medical Center with serious injuries. Simmons was arrested and charged with charged with intoxication assault and fraudulent use or possession of identifying information.
Police said Simmons was one of over a hundred kids under the age of 21 who’ve been arrested for alcohol related offenses in the last six months. EverythingLubbock.com took a look at the number of underage arrests for alcohol related offenses.
LPD has made 137 arrests of people ages 15-20 years old since August 19, 2017.

Over 60 of these cases involved 20-year-olds, but in 11 of these cases the arrestee was under the age of 18.
The TABC reminds minors it’s not worth the buzz. According to their website, for some of these offenses you can face a fine of up to $500, community service, or even the loss of your drivers license. Not to mention, no matter your age, if you’re behind the wheel drunk, you’re endangering yourself and others.
