Monday morning, Lubbock Police confirmed one person involved in a Sunday night crash later died. LPD said another person was hospitalized in stable condition.
Two vehicles collided just before 9:00 p.m. at Slide Road and 13th Street.
Police identified the woman who died as Sarah Dearmond, 19.
On Monday morning, Lubbock Police issued the following statement:
Anthony Puente, 20, is currently being booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in connection to the fatal crash late Sunday night.
Just before 9 p.m. on February 24th, the Lubbock Police Department received reports of a crash between a pickup truck and car at the intersection of 13th Street and Slide Road. The two occupants of the car were taken by EMS to the hospital with serious injuries. The front passenger of the car, 19-year-old Sarah Dearmond, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Puente, the driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck, had minor injuries.
At this time it appears Puente was traveling north on Slide and the car was traveling west on 13th Street when the two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Based on the investigation, Puente was taken into custody and charged with intoxication manslaughter, intoxication assault and a third charge of possession of marijuana.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by LPD crash investigators.
