Volunteers Needed to Help Fix Up Legacy Play Village

The ‘Friends of Legacy Play Village’ nonprofit has asked the community for help restoring the popular playground.

Legacy Play Village closed its doors temporarily for repairs. Those will begin on Saturday, August 5th at 8 a.m. They are trying to re-open by Sunday, August 6th, but hope volunteers of all skill levels will come out and help.

The facility, off the Marsha Sharp Freeway, was built 15 years ago. A spokesperson said it was built by and for the community.

Families have been coming to the park, only to find locked gates and ‘closed’ signs.

“We come out here almost daily,” Donny Rowe said of the beloved park. “We just live right up the road, and this is our favorite park. It’s great. It’s in the shade. I have a place to sit and the kids have a place to play. We like it. It’s inclosed, so it feels a bit safer.”

He said the park is usually full during the summer.

“We drove up and there was nobody here,” Rowe said. “We’ve never seen it like this before.”

Currently, that enclosed fence has large holes that need to be repaired. There are nails poking out in places, and safety railings that have experienced wear-and-tear. They said it had experienced some vandalism, as well.

Friends of Legacy Village closed the playground’s doors to ensure nobody gets hurt until changes are made, and families said they appreciate it.

“Apparently they’re doing some repairs, which is good,” Rowe said. “ I can’t wait for it to open again.”

The nonprofit said volunteers are the key to improving the facility for everyone.
