Beginning Sunday, April 1, the City will be implementing their annual Spring and Summer irrigation restrictions.

This includes no irrigation between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and irrigating less than 1.5 inches per zone each week.

This is in addition to the annual restrictions including allowing watering only two days a week. Those days are based on the last digit of the house address.

“We do have high evaporation here in West Texas compared to many places back East where they have a lot of humidity. Here it is very dry,” said Aubrey Spear, Director of Water Utility.

Through these efforts, the city conserves 30 million gallons of water each.

“We are trying to avoid higher and higher water rates by lowering water use. Our water conservation is our cheapest water we can ever have,” Spear said.

Water conservation pushes back multimillion dollar water supply projects by a couple decades, he added.

The restrictions will last through September 30.
