The students at Legacy Elementary recently raised thousands of dollars to help Wish Kids here on the South Plains.

In a program called “Kids For Wish Kids,” the Legacy Elementary student council came up with a plan to raise money, and they succeeded.

Making more than $2,000 for Wish Kids in Lubbock, they hosted several fundraisers over several months.

“Students were the driving force behind this campaign because they knew we were helping kids just like them.” said Principal Cheryl Booher.

From cotton candy sales to penny wars to crazy hair days, the students did it all to help make dreams come true.

“All grades compete to win special prizes. Whoever wins most out of pennies, you eliminate points from other teams. It’s really fun.” said Dane Arp with the student council.

“We had $1 cotton candy, and if you want to buy cotton candy, all that goes to Make-A-Wish,” said Holden Phillips, student council member.

Dane and Holden both tell us that volunteering for Make-A-Wish has been one of the best experiences they have had while at Legacy Elementary School.

You can follow in their footsteps by participating in the annual Walk for Wishes event, hosted by Texas Tech’s WishMakers on Campus.

The event takes place this Saturday, April 7 at the Buddy Holly Recreation area. For more information, click here.
