Hundreds of members of the Lubbock community successfully raised thousands for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“Waltzing for wishes is a fabulous event. It’s well-known far belong Lubbock,” said Jessie Wente with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Back in March, hundreds of people came out to raise money for wishes.

Dancers compete to grant wishes for kids in Lubbock and surrounding areas.” said Wente.

KAMC’s own Lauren Matter and the seven other dancers aren’t the only ones who spent months practicing and perfecting their ballroom moves.

“Well me and my dad have been dancing in our garage. We close the door so my wheelchair doesn’t slip out. We’ve been spinning around a bunch.” said Annabeth Smith, Starlight Dancer.

Annabeth and her dad are helping future Wish Kids, by talking about their experience.

“Well it was so much fun. I got to meet the Disney princesses. My favorite part was having the meet and greet with Anna and Elsa.” said Annabeth.

A lot of thought went into planning her outfit for the big night.

“Pink’s my favorite color. I’m going to wear a headband with flowers on it,” said Annabeth.

The goal was to raise lots of money to help grant more wishes. The competition was fierce on the dance floor.

“I’ve gotten to know so many of them. So thankful to the dedication very unique and one of a kind event.” said Wente.

The big winner on this night, Annabeth of course! There wasn’t a dry eye in sight when she took the stage.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation raised $420,000. That adds up to lots of wishes here on the South Plains.

Right now, they’re in need of wish granters. If you would like to volunteer, call Jordan Perry at 806-785-9474.
