Lubbock Homes for Heroes gives the keys to a home to another recipient.

Marine Sergeant Christoper Montez was chosen as the recipient for the 2015 home. Montez was injured in a helicopter accident in 2004, and was paralyzed from the neck down.

His mother, Minnie Honesto, will live with him. “We thank everybody from the bottom of our hearts,” Honesto said about how many people who donated and helped them.

Montez and his mother watched the progress of the home, but were told to not peek before the key ceremony Tuesday, something Montez said was hard for him to do.

Honesto called the house ‘gorgeous’ and said “it’s a total blessing to finally say he has a home. If something ever happens to me, I know he’s going to be OK.”

This is the fifth home that Lubbock Homes for Heroes has been able to provide.  Stewart Townsen has been involved for the last five years, and this year, he was the lead builder on the project.

“This is quite an honor to even be able to have anything to do with it,” Townsen said.

Montez served from 1994 to 1998, and then reenlisted in 2001. He continued to serve until his accident.
