Texas Tech head football coach Kliff Kingsbury announced the completion of his coaching staff with the additions of Karl Scott and DeShaun Foster on Wednesday. Scott will serve as Texas Tech’s cornerbacks coach, while Foster will coach the running backs.

“We are extremely excited to add Coach Scott and Coach Foster to our staff,” Kingsbury said. “They are both bright and energetic coaches and will be valuable additions to our program.”

Scott arrives at Texas Tech after serving one year as the safeties coach at Louisiana Tech under head coach Skip Holtz. In 2015, Scott helped lead Louisiana Tech to a 9-4 overall record, a second place finish in the Conference USA West Division and a 47-28 win over Arkansas State in the New Orleans Bowl.

Prior to his stint at Louisiana Tech, Scott served three years on the Southeastern Louisiana staff as defensive coordinator in 2014 and linebackers coach from 2012-13. During his tenure with the Lions, Scott helped lead the program to back-to-back Southland Conference championships in 2013 and 2014, two NCAA Division II playoff appearances and No. 12 and No. 14 respective national rankings in the final FCS Coaches and Sports Network polls. As defensive coordinator in 2014, Scott guided a Lions unit that concluded the year leading the Southland Conference in total defense, while ranking seventh in the Football Championships Subdivision (FCS). The Lions also led the nation in passing deficiency (94.30), ranked fifth in red zone defense (.667 percentage), eighth in scoring defense (17.7 ppg) and ranked 11th nationally in turnovers gained (28).

Before he arrived in Hammond, Scott served as recruiting coordinator, defensive backs coach and linebackers coach in a four-year stint (2008-11) at Tusculum College, an NCAA Division II institution in Greeneville, Tenn. In 2008, Scott helped lead the Pioneers to a South Atlantic Conference championship with a 9-4 record as well as an NCAA Division II playoff berth and No. 16 final national ranking.

Scott began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Delta State University in 2007. In his lone season at DSU, he helped lead the Statesman to a 10-2 record, a No. 10 final national ranking, Gulf South Conference championship and NCAA Division II playoff appearance.

A Houston native, Scott played his collegiate career at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where he graduated in 2007 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Studies.

Foster comes to Lubbock from UCLA, where he not only played, but served as the Director of Player Development & High School Relations. Prior to his stint at UCLA, Foster played seven years in the National Football League. After completing his NFL career, Foster returned to UCLA where he earned his undergraduate degree and worked as a student-assistant coach. Foster was promoted to his current role in 2015.

Foster was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played with the Panthers from 2002-07. The highlights of his stint in Carolina were touchdowns in the 2004 NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles and in Super Bowl XXXVIII versus the New England Patriots. Foster played the 2008 season for the San Francisco 49ers.

Before embarking on his professional career, Foster was one of the most accomplished UCLA running backs in school history. He completed his career in second on the all-time touchdowns scored list (44), third on the school’s all-time rushing list (3,194 yards) and fifth on the all-time Bruin scoring list (266 points). Foster was ranked 18th on the Pac-10 career rushing list. His 722 career rushing attempts were the most in school history. His 13 100-yard career rushing games ranked fifth on UCLA’s all-time list. He was named a first-team All-Pac-10 selection following the 2001 and 2000 seasons.

Foster’s hire is pending university approval at this time.
