Head coach Kliff Kingsbury knows how valuable continuity can be for a coaching staff and its players…especially on the defensive side of the ball at Texas Tech.

Going into the 2016 football season, David Gibbs will be the eighth defensive coordinator at Tech in the past 10 years.

Kingsbury sees that building chemistry as a good sign for a defense that struggled in 2015.

“As you all know around here, that hasn’t happened very often, to have back-to-back seasons,” said Kingsbury on National Signing Day. “He’s a great evaluator of talent. This is his first class that he’s really been able to put his hands on throughout the entire year.”

Fans who only see the gaudy amount of yards Gibbs’ defense gave up in his first season most likely won’t recall that Tech did improve their turnover margin, forcing 10 more turnovers this past season than in 2014.

“We brought Coach Gibbs in to improve turnover margin; that improved dramatically,” said Kingsbury. “I think as he stacks his classes together, I think you’ll continue to see our defense improve.”
