Lubbock Sheriff’s Office investigating a crash with injuries that put four people in the hospital Wednesday.

Authorities said a deputy was attempting to stop Matthew McWhorter, 32, driving a grey Dodge Nitro for multiple traffic violations at about 4:30 p.m. at 38th Street and Avenue Q.

McWhorter fled the scene in the vehicle and refused to stop. This caused a crash into red Chevrolet that had four people inside at the time, two adults and two juveniles, at 34th Street and Avenue U.

All four victims were transported by EMS in a hospital with serious injuries. No update on their condition at this time.

After crashing into the red Chevrolet, McWhorter fled on foot where a deputy quickly caught him in a nearby backyard.

The suspect is charged with failing to stop and render aid x4 (seriously bodily injury), evading motor vehicle (serious bodily injury), evading on foot, and theft.
