Five members from the Lubbock Fire Department are getting ready to travel to Seattle to participate in the 27th Annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb on March 11.
They will join 2,000 firefighters from around the world and climb 69 flights of stairs in their full firefighting gear. They do this annually to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Lubbock firefighters have teamed up with groups from around the state to take on this challenge as Team Texas. Lubbock Firefighter Kris Kelly said they are excited to take on the challenge for the second year.
“We just feel really honored to do it again this year to be a part of this effort,” Kelly said. “They (The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) do amazing things for cancer research and supporting survivors and people that have any type of blood cancer.”
Each firefighter has set a goal to raise more than $1,000 for the climb. They are selling T-shirts, raffle tickets and taking any donations to support this cause.
