The 59th Annual Fibermax Caprock Classic is the largest high school basketball tournament in the world for boys and girls. The tournament started with only eight teams and has grown to 85.
This tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Lubbock Caprock Chapter American Business Club. President Joe Hoelscher said this tournament helps provide therapeutic tricycles for children and adults with disabilities.
“We give away about one a week and they help children and adults ride tricycles that they normally would not be able to ride,” Hoelscher said.
Two years ago, a team from Australia made the trip for this tournament and had such a great experience they have been back ever since.
Leigh Dawson is the coach of Geelong Supercats and said the trip was long, but his team is excited to compete.
“The girls cannot wait to get started,” Dawson said. “I’m excited to see what it is going to be like and have heard the competition is great so we are excited.”
