A 9-week-old Great Dane mix named Sheriff is now in the care of the South Plains SPCA after he was found with severe sunburn damage to his skin. He was left out for several days in the triple-digit heat.

“We know it’s from being out in the sun, in blistering heat, no shade, no nothing,” Bayli Bybee, Sheriff’s foster mom, said.

Bybee said a couple had seen Sheriff tied up for multiple days on a private residence, with no shade and no water. She said the couple then took Sheriff to the South Plains SPCA.

“He is skinny. You can tell he doesn’t feel good. We found this large wound on his back that was scalped and had puss coming out of it,” Bybee said.

Sheriff is now being cared for by veterinarians through the South Plains SPCA.
Bybee said once he is fully healed, he will be up for adoption.
