A Job Reaching Great Heights

Our KLBK station has been under a little construction after one of our antennas failed and recently burned out. Mike Berry, a Crew Foreman for Precision Communications, who is currently working to fix the issue, said going up 800 feet to fix the problem is just part of his job.

It’s like looking out of the airplane window. It’s another days work is all it is. It’s what we do for a living. I’ve started doing this, the first tower I climbed I was 16,” Berry said.

Climbing up these towers he said is not a job everyone can handle, especially if you have a fear of heights.

“When their scared then they find another line of business. I don’t run them out I work with them and try to get them over their fear but mostly if they can’t get over their fear they move on. You just have to be willing,” Berry said.

The failed antenna has been taken down and Berry said it will be a few days until the new part gets in, which weighs about 2,000 pounds. Once it arrives, they will put it in place.

All of those who have cable should still be able to see our programming, but for everyone else we are planning on getting the new antenna up in the next few days.
