Lonestar 99.5, a local radio station, is looking to help out those trying to get married. They’re hosting a contest where they’ll pay for everything, from the ring to the venue but the catch is the couple has to get hitched by next week.
“We did some research and then we were pleasantly surprised that here in Lubbock it’s a little more affordable than other parts of the country to get married. But we were able to pull together with a lot of great sponsors this wedding that is valued at 8,000 dollars,” DJ Jan, an afternoon host at Lonestar 99.5 said.
DJ Jan said since the contest started, they’ve had over 500 entries, but she said they were surprised by some of the different stories they’ve received on people entering to win.
“I’ve even had some folks who are wanting to get remarried so that’ll be interesting, they would say ‘we got married 20 years ago, we couldn’t afford much of a wedding so this will be awesome if we could get remarried.’ But majority of the folks who are just getting married are for the first time and everything is expensive,” DJ Jan said.
The winner of the contest will be announced June 2nd, but DJ Jan said they will have a backup just in case the winner gets cold feet.
“We will call the winners first and let them know to make sure they are actually prepared to get married because we will have to have some back up winners just in case the first one drawn out isn’t ready to get married. If they say ‘yes we’re ready to get married one week from this Saturday,‘ then that’s the deal, they have to get married Saturday June 10th,” said DJ Jan.
