For folks who think the only good Texas Barbeque is in the central part of the state, then you have a lot to learn. There’s a handful of delicious joints right here in The Hub City and you need to experience what each authentic place has to offer.
A historical staple to Lubbock, 34th street is where you’ll find Tom & Bingo’s Hickory BBQ. Opened since 1952, with wooden walls and old school desks this popular lunch spot has been recognized by Texas monthly and praised by locals for their quick service and tasty sauce.
Owner Ian Timmons said a large percent of his customers are regulars, and he loves greeting them by name.
“It’s like a time machine, you go back to when this place first opened and it’s that old school nostalgic feel,” Timmons said.
Another place to visit is Eddie’s of course, on 50th street. Stepping in here is like stepping into a Texas man cave where everyone is welcome. Customers can’t get enough of his world famous frito pie, with fresh brisket smoked on Oak.
Owner Eddie Delavan said he has enjoyed adding wall decorations over the years and making it feel like home.
“I sell a ton of Frito pies, and they were sort of just a creation when we started getting tired of eating sandwiches so we put it on the menu,” Delavan said. “I decorated over 14 years, me and my daughter painted that garage door,”
If you want a drink with your barbeque and some live music and an old Texas atmosphere, you should take a drive out to The Shack. Located off of Frankford, owned by Kyle and Kelly Farris this eatery says they make everything from scratch.
Manager Brandi Quarels said they have all put a lot of love into this place, and it’s been blood sweat and tears since they’ve opened.
“We struggled and we have excelled and it has been amazing,” Quarels said.
With a wide array of items on their menu, even apple pie cheese cake, customers say they struggle to order one thing. Regular, Martha Naul said she orders the entire menu and takes it home to eat for two or three days.
“You’re going to think I’m a little piglet on this,” Naul said. “I like it all, they have good ribs, barbeque, chicken, turkey, beans,”
