Pool openings are only a couple weeks away, and the city wants you to sign up to be a lifeguard. Even though the doors to the pools are locked, that doesn’t mean you can’t think ahead.

“Right now, we’re getting the facilities ready, making sure that we’re having chemicals delivered to stabilize the water,” said Kayla Daniels, aquatics coordinator for the City of Lubbock.

If you want to put your kids in swimming lessons or become a lifeguard, now’s the time to do it.

“The pools are actually cleaned every single day,” Daniels said. “We are closed on Mondays to do a chemical treatment of the water, just to kind of reset the water and make sure it’s good after having a week full of people in it.”

As for lifeguards, almost all the spots are filled.

“They are Red Cross certified through the Red Cross American. First Aid, CPR, and the lifeguard course. They obviously all need to have their certifications, as well as my head lifeguards and my pool managers,” said Daniels.
