School starts in about two weeks for a lot of kids on the South Plains, but before they make the trek back, an alumnus of the Boys and Girls Club wanted to make sure they are looking their best.

“I just asked myself what can I do to give back,” said Alex Frausto, owner of 5Star Cuts and Style. “I thought giving my service was for the best.”

Frausto used to be a member at the Boys and Girls Club, and he remembered how tough it could be for some kids to get a haircut for the back-to-school season, because he was once that boy.

“I was one of the less fortunate that couldn’t afford to get the haircuts, so now I can be the guy to give back because I remember wishing somebody would come to cut my hair,” said Frausto.

He says that he never forgot that feeling, and when he opened up his first barber shop, he made a point of reaching back out to the Boys and Girls Club.

“I contacted them and asked if it would be okay if I gave back to the community,” said Frausto. “I used to walk around with long hair because my mom wouldn’t be able to afford a haircut.”

Al Duvall, unit director for the Boys and Girls Club, said he appreciates everything that Frausto is doing for them.

“It’s great, we get a lot of volunteers out here, but this is really going to allow the kids to go back to school in style,” said Duvall. “The kids are the happiest ones though, I think. They signed up immediately.”

This is the first time that Frausto has offered his services for the Boys and Girls Club, but he hopes to make it an annual event.
