The Hockley County Sherrif’s Office conducted a death investigation Monday after a call about an unattended death where a body was found in a ditch on Quail Road near Buster’s Gin in Ropesville.
Sheriff Ray Scifres said the identity will not yet be released, nor will they yet release if they found a firearm or weapon near the body.
“At this point an autopsy has been scheduled and we will know more on Tuesday,” Scifres said.
23-year-old Ladarrell Hunt was the one who made the initial call to police after discovering the body. Hunt said he was loading equipment into his truck at the gin, when he started driving down Quail road and noticed a body covered in blood laying next to a white truck.
“It was fresh blood it looked like the incident just happened, and at that point I didn’t know if there was someone else around or if the guy did it himself, I was scared,” Hunt said.
Update: On Tuesday, Scifres said the death was ruled a suicide. Scifres also said the situation was not related to recent the report of a missing man in Levelland.
