LUBBOCK, Texas — Braum’s Ice Cream has plans to make their way to the Hub City, but before they can start serving, they first need to settle on a location.
City Councilman Steve Massengale said on Tuesday, City Council heard the zoning proposal for Braum’s where they asked to occupy the former home of “South House,” off of 82nd Street and University Avenue.
Massengale said Braum’s has plans to demolish the old building, and build a new restaurant with a drive thru.
“Lubbock is great opportunity right now, it’s growing,” Massengale said. “We benefit from a good healthy steady growth and I think businesses looking to open new locations look at Lubbock as a good place to do it.”
The first reading was approved by City Council, meaning they will hear the proposal once more on May 14th and if approved, Braum’s can move forward with construction.
David Powell, a local commercial realtor, said he expects larger businesses to keep coming toward Lubbock, because of how well the city supports restaurants, and continues to boost the economy.
“Those companies are of course going to hire and it’s a rotating deal,” Powell said. “The more money you put in the economy the bigger the economy is going to be, and everybody gets to enjoy in that.”
