The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences is still looking for 50 million dollars of funding in order to complete the project.
Tim Collins, chairman of the board for Lubbock Entertainment and Performing Arts Association, said the total project is budgeted at 150 million dollars.
“This is going to be something the whole community will look back on and say I remember when that was going up,” Collins said.
Collins said much of the large and small theaters have already been built, as well as the spiral staircase and basement.
Currently, Collins said they are working on finishing the roof and once that is done they can work on painting, laying tile and installing plumbing.
“I feel like it’s going to attract people from all over the country to now come and utilize this building,” Collins said.
The Hall is attracting eyes from all over not only because of it’s design, but Collins said because of the legacy attached to the name.
“We had an anonymous donor who made a very significant gift to the project,” Collins said. “With that gift, they were given the rights to name the building, and rather than name it after their family or after their business, they chose the name Buddy Holly.”
Collins said this building is not only an entertainment facility, but something that will build downtown Lubbock.
“Why not Lubbock, we have a great community, we have great people here and we need to take advantage of every opportunity and create those opportunities,” Collins said. “And I think that’s what this building does is create opportunity for our citizens.”
Collins said opening day is set for Spring of 2020, and they are still accepting donations for the project. If you would like to contribute to funding, you can head over to their webiste at the link below.
