The volunteers over at the South Plains Food Bank GRUB Farm need your help now more than ever after burglars stole more than $10,000 worth of equipment from their farm. The director of the farm said this is the hardest they’ve been hit by burglars ever.

“We’re just kind of devastated,” said Jenifer Smith, director of the GRUB farm, “The bigger hurt for me is that they did this to our Youth Program.”

The burglars left pried doors, fences sliced open, and several expensive items missing from the GRUB farm such as computers, lawn equipment, and lock boxes. The part that concerns Ms. Smith the most is what will happen to their GRUB program.

“I get teary thinking about it because the kids work so hard out here and really take ownership of this program and of this farm and to have someone come in a vandalize it and steal. It’s a real slap in the face,” said Smith.

The GRUB program allows kids to grow food and help feed people in need so they need that stolen equipment to do their volunteer work.

“It’s essentially for our 30 teams that work for us. They’re going to feel like they’ve had their space invaded,’ said Smith.

She just hopes the burglars realize who their impacting next time they steal from a non-profit.

“We’re part of an organization that tries to lift people up and they have done something really you know done something bad to the whole community,” Smith said.

If you want to donate directly to the farm, call the GRUB farm at (806) 748-1424 and ask for Jenifer.
