Halloween is less than a week away, and while you might be getting ready for the holiday by decorating the outside of your home, others are prepping in a different way.
“We went to bed around 11 and woke up to the dogs crazy barking,” said Carrie Stewart Nolan. “It wasn’t until morning that we checked the cameras that we released we had a thief.”
Nolan’s front door camera caught a person coming up to her front porch, looking for items to steal, before disappearing from view. Nolan believes the thief was spooked off once her dogs started barking, but managed to get away with a few small decorations.
“It really is so awful because the kids and neighbors look forward to seeing what we put out every day, and now this guy is just taking it for himself,” said Nolan.
The thief has not been identified yet, but Nolan said the incident has scared her so much that she is hesitant about putting out the rest of her decoration in case he comes back.
“He came right up to the door, completely missing the front yard, and that scares me,” said Nolan. “It’s a scary situation that he was so close to us, not to mention I don’t want to risk more money if he keeps coming back.”
Now there are camera surveillance signs all over her property, telling would-be-thieves they are being watched. Nolan wants to not only make sure her decorations survive the holiday, but also ensure kids remain safe when they visit her trick-or-treating.
“I am not going to let this guy win,” said Nolan. “We will be putting everything out, but it will only be out on Halloween, because we want the kids to enjoy, but not give any more opportunities to these thieves.”
