The City of Lubbock Codes Department is cracking down on the Coronado Apartments. The vacant complex is located near 34th and Juniper. It’s currently owned by former Councilman Frank Morrison.
The City issued the following release yesterday:
The City of Lubbock has taken legal action against the owners of the Coronado Apartments. The vacant apartment complex has fallen into disrepair and has become a continued health and safety hazard.
The City notified the owners of Property Maintenance Code violations in March of this year and gave the owners 30 days to correct the issues. A recent inspection found that the violations are still present.
The City has now filed a petition in District Court in accordance with Chapter 54 of the Texas Local Government Code, seeking a court order for the owners to correct the issues by repair or demolition.
Some neighbors in the surrounding area told everythinglubbock.com they consider the property an “eye sore” while others, like Kenneth Reese said the property has a lot of potential and just needs some tender loving care.
“I think those apartments should be rebuilt, refurbished, do something positive with them instead of just turning them down or turn them into a parking lot,” Reese said. “We have a section eight waiting list as long as MLK so go ahead and put some families over here that need to be over here.”
