The City of Lubbock wants to remind the public that Playa Lakes aren’t meant for swimming.
“There is all sorts of stuff in there,” Gene Dotson, a local fisherman, said.
The City said these playas are used to collect run off water from the roads so things like oils, fertilizers and dirt could be lurking in the water with you.
“The water that fills the lakes are dirt and chemicals, picked up along the way and it isn’t good for drinking or swimming,” Bridget Faulkenberry, the Director for the City Parks and Recreation department said.
Faulkenberry said those caught swimming could receive a ticket.
“Its just nasty. I don’t know all that is in it. Its supposed to be a river but it isn’t a very clean one,” Dotson said.
