City officials discuss upcoming developments in the community

The Lubbock City Council called for a special meeting with the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA) to discuss upcoming developments throughout the city. President and CEO LEDA, John Osborne says, there’s a number of new developments underway in Lubbock, many of which will continue to improve the quality of this family friendly community.

“We’re seeing the dog parks being spread throughout the city and we’re excited about some of the planning that’s being done on some of these parks, to continue to enhance them to make them enjoyable for all of our citizens, but those plans are being done on parks throughout the city,” said Osborne.

Other developments relate to the enterprise and tourism footprint across the city.

“We’re continuing to see that as our population grows and as the number of visitors to our community continues to increase greater than the 6 million that we currently receive, that more and more restaurants and shopping continue to look at Lubbock and that’s exciting to see other developments that are taking place,” Osborne says.

From major chain restaurants to smaller businesses, Lubbock is the hub for introducing new business ventures. District director of U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and board member of LEDA and Market Lubbock Inc., Calvin Davis says, “In Lubbock we’re very diverse.  Fortunately, Lubbock has a very thriving and growing small business population here. Our small business community is the backbone of this particular community. We’re growing at a great pace and I know that we can even pick up more as downtown develops as this city develops. So we’re looking probably better than other cities our size.”

Osborne, says there’s a great deal of excitement regarding the revitalization of the downtown area of Lubbock and he encourages the community to see these changes first hand. He also confirmed there will be more construction near the airport, with additions to the Lubbock Railport and Lubbock Business Park.

The community will continue to improve. “There’s empty buildings that are being filled and new buildings are being built and its great for us as citizens of Lubbock to get to see enjoy all those,” Osborne says. “We’re excited about what that does in terms of making Lubbock a great quality place.”
