A car chase between two civilians stemmed from a meetup to purchase a Samsung phone, ending with a vehicle crashed into a Central Lubbock home Tuesday.
“She lost ’cause they were chasing her all because of counterfeit money for a phone that they bought at McDonald’s,” Sylvia Vasquez, who owns the home crashed into, said.
The Lubbock Police Department said the woman who purchased the phone paid with fake money. The two men selling the phone said once they realized the three $100 bills were fake, they started chasing her in their car.
“She lost control of her mini van and hit the tree and then hit my house,” Vasquez said.
The woman was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the car chasing her, 31-year-old Matthew Lott, was arrested for reckless driving.
Vasquez said no one was at home during the time of the crash, and she was glad all of her family is safe.
“I just want everyone to be OK because I heard that the lady got hurt when she went off the tree. But it was her fault: Don’t mess with counterfeit money,” Vasquez said.
Police said more arrests and charges are possible.
