A Clovis family wants major changes to happen along Highway 60/84 after 20-year-old Brittany Kanmore suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car crash in January.

Brittany has been recovering at Covenant Specialty Hospital for a month now, and her family members said they are still looking for answers.

“She’s always friendly and full of life,” said Mary Lyon, Brittany’s grandmother. “People refer to her like she’s a little firecracker.”

According to family, Brittany Kanmore was on her way to school when she crashed into a large pickup truck and was airlifted to Lubbock. She was diagnosed with a DAI, or Diffuse Axonal Injury.

“The doctors basically explained it almost like shaken baby syndrome,” said Connie Kanmore, Brittany’s mom. “We are still trying to get her breathing, and then we will be able to assess the neurological damage.”

This isn’t the first major accident to happen between Highway 60/84 and NM 467. Three years ago 21-year-old Brandon Summers died while trying to make the same turn.

Now, the Kanmore family said they are asking the city of Clovis to put a four-way traffic stop at the intersection where Brittany crashed.

“Brittany would want something to be done,” Lyon said. “If we could get a stoplight there it would stop this from happening to another family.”
