A couple of Texas Tech fanatics made sure they were back in time from their honeymoon for the NCAA Super Regional ticket release, but now they made a different trip to cheer for the Red Raiders.
“Games have been awesome! We only came to the Tech game the first one versus Florida. Gotta see us beat up on some Gators which was great,” said Mike and Rebekah Russell. ‘
On their one month anniversary, the Russell’s are doing what they do best: Walking to the TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha to cheer for the Red Raiders.
“I would love to be still up here on Tuesday if we can swing it,” said the Russell’s.
They made vows to love each other back in May, but also a separate set of vows to follow the Texas Tech Baseball team on their journey in the College World Series.
“We were on our honeymoon in Mexico and we’re following the baseball regionals and decided if they made it passed the Supers we were definitely coming up to Omaha,” they said.
But don’t worry, they didn’t cut their honeymoon short. They said it all worked out perfectly.
“We’re moving to Iowa City and so it just kind of makes great sense. Just to make the trek up here and then on over,” Mike and Rebekah said.
Kind of like an extended honeymoon before they get back to reality!
“I graduated med school in Texas Tech this year and I’m going to be doing an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Iowa so we’re moving up there and Beka’s going to be starting her elementary education job at the Iowa community school district,” said Mike.
They said they can’t picture themselves spending their vacation anywhere else.
“I feel like that’s been our whole relationship. It’s just one awesome adventure after the next. So I feel like it’s just a great start to our marriage but just kind of a continuation of our time together,” said Rebekah.
