On Wednesday, March 27, Lubbock Christian University’s women’s basketball team played against the Drury Panthers in the NCAA Division II Final Four game in Columbus, Ohio.

Back home in Lubbock, faculty, staff, students and members of the community gathered to support the Lady Chaps.

Tip-off was set at 7:30 p.m. and the doors of the McDonald-Moody Auditorium opened at 7 p.m. for fans to grab a seat and watch the game.

LCU senior Keegan Stewart said everyone on campus knows who the Lady Chaps are, and the legacy they have created over these past few years.

It puts our school on the map, Stewart said. I mean what better way to market for our University than having the basketball program go out on the national stage and promote it.

For the Elite Eight game, LCU’s Vice President of Advancement Raymond Richardson said hundreds came out to a viewing party and that the Lady Chaps felt the love all the way in Ohio.

What a treat to turn on the TV and see Lubbock Christian University, Richardson said. And being represented with only four teams left in Division II women’s basketball and one of those proudly says the Lubbock name on it.

Since the Lady Chaps won tonight, they will play in the National Championship game on Friday at 6 p.m. and the watch party will be held at the Rip Griffin Center.
