While Covenant Health is under construction, the hospital system announced 94 percent of materials from former structures will be recycled or reused.

Several new buildings are being added to the west side of Covenant Medical Center on 19th Street, requiring the demolition of multiple existing structures.

Covenant Health said it is recycling 6,000 tons of metal, re-purposing 12,000 tons of brick and 38,500 tons of concrete. Only 3,500 tons of debris will be disposed into the landfill, according to a news release.

The construction is part of Covenant Health’s $450 million Keeping the Covenant Campaign.
